In November 2015 I wrote an article for the New Zealand Law Society’s LawTalk magazine about the September sittings of the Supreme Court appeals in Clayton v Clayton.
Although Mr and Mrs Clayton were able to reach a full and final settlement of their long-standing dispute in December (the terms of which were and are to remain confidential), given the public interest in their appeals, the Supreme Court resolved that it would exercise its discretion to determine the appeals and issue judgments in due course. Those judgments were handed down on Wednesday 23 March 2016.
I have been invited to write a follow up article for the April 2016 edition of LawTalk. Meantime, Hamish Fletcher of the New Zealand Herald has written an informative summary of the judgments which appeared in this Saturday’s edition, about which I was consulted.
